FCRA & Screening Disclaimer

Seer surfaces what students choose to publish about their learning. It is not a background check, and treating it as one creates legal exposure for you and unfair outcomes for them.

01Seer is not a consumer reporting agency

Seer is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and the profiles, certifications, project scores, endorsements, and match percentages on the platform are not consumer reports or investigative consumer reports.

02Prohibited uses

You may not use Seer data, in whole or in part, as a factor in establishing eligibility for:
  • Credit or insurance for personal, family, or household purposes.
  • Housing or tenancy.
  • Government licenses or benefits.
  • Any other purpose regulated as a permissible purpose under the FCRA.
Employment screening that requires a consumer report must be run through a licensed consumer reporting agency with the disclosures, authorizations, and adverse-action steps the FCRA requires.

03What we do and don't verify

Where a certification is linked to its issuing provider we display that link. Everything else — GPA, projects, endorsements, and narrative content — is self-reported or supplied by mentors, and Seer does not independently investigate its accuracy.
Match scores are relevance signals generated from profile data. They are not predictions of job performance and should never be the sole basis for a hiring decision.

04Fair hiring

Employers remain solely responsible for compliance with equal opportunity, anti-discrimination, pay transparency, and automated-decision laws in the jurisdictions where they hire, including any required notice or bias-audit obligations for AI-assisted screening tools.
See all policies in the Seer legal center.
